MyProprioception allows to immediately evaluate the joint position sense and range of motion for movements of the main joints.
On the one hand, the proprioceptive evaluation with the joint position sense test (JPS) is a key parameter for rehabilitation and injury prevention, as well as for sports performance. This test informs us about the proprioceptive error and thus, the proprioceptive precision and acuity.
Regarding rehabilitation and injury prevention, previous studies have shown higher proprioceptive errors in those people with previous injuries like painful shoulder, femoropatellar pain syndrome or ACL tears, even after returning sport or daily life activities. This situation would hamper the entire rehabilitation and facilitate re-injuries or even new injuries.
In terms of sports performance, higher proprioceptive errors could affect the efficacy not only for those technical sports movements like free throws in basketball but also for easier and automatic movements like running or walking.
Despite the importance of proprioception, its measurement to now has required laborious process and/or sophisticated devices that were frequently unaffordable and hampered the immediately feedback for the physiotherapists, coaches, athletes, or patients. MyProprioception immediately informs about proprioceptive errors of any joint and situation. In this way, rehabilitation or training session would be modified according to the proprioceptive skills assessed in that time.
The other possibility that MyProprioception allows is to assess range of motion (ROM). This parameter is crucial for the rehabilitation process and the motor learning.
For both JPS and ROM, this app is based on the photogrammetric analysis thanks to the location of anatomical markers. To improve the best functioning of MyProprioception, you have the option of downloading QR markers that should be fixed to the anatomical references before the test. The ARKit system of IOS will recognize these markers and ensure the correct alignment between the patient and device. The gyroscope will also ensure the correct location of the device. In this way, perspective will not be a problem for the measurements and the movement will be performed in the correct anatomical plane.
If you do not use QR markers there is no problem, but you should ensure the correct movement and manually indicate the anatomical references when ROM or JPS test finish. A zoom system will facilitate this task.
As summary, MyProprioception help you monitor joint movements in an easy and quick way. You should only worry about how to improve it.
